Immigrant Rights
Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders (NHPI) are a community that is nearly two-thirds immigrant and the fastest growing racial group in the United States. At the local, state, and federal level, Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California works to amplify Asian American and NHPI community voices in the immigration reform debate and advocates for fair laws and policies affecting Asian American and NHPI immigrants using both administrative and legislative strategies.
Our activities include monitoring and analyzing immigration legislation or policies, educating communities and individuals about policy developments, and working in coalition with community partners to push for reform.
This year, we are calling for a modern, common-sense immigration process that:
- Creates a clear and reasonable roadmap to citizenship for all 11 million immigrants who are committed to our country and are Americans in every sense of the word, except on paper
- Ends the separation of families waiting years, and even decades, to be reunited with loved ones overseas, and affirms the importance of family-based immigration
- Reforms laws enacted in 1996 that have resulted in hundreds of thousands of unfair deportations and have negatively impacted Southeast Asian refugees and Pacific Islanders
- Provides equal immigration rights for our lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender brothers and sisters
