by Arali Seneviratne, Volunteer Intern
This past Thursday, March 30, 2023, AJSOCAL held our 9th annual Virtual Game Night hosted by the Pro Bono Advisory Council (PBAC). The night was full of competition over trivia, the correct interpretations of visual puns, and finding the lies in 2 truths and a lie. With nearly 100 participants made up of individuals who do important work for the AAPI community, the competition was tough! As a volunteer on the policy team, I was so happy to see the 11 teams enjoying themselves and arguing passionately for compelling (but sometimes wrong) answers!
In addition to the games, there was also the opportunity to meet new people during the networking sessions with members of our Pro Bono Advisory Council and our other honored guests. It was wonderful to meet and speak with many of the sponsors behind our event and the volunteers whose contributions allow us to continue providing community members with so many of the legal services they need to thrive.
At the event, AJSOCAL took some time to recognize this year’s Champion Volunteers:
- Arali Seneviratne
- Candice Lee
- Mark Cheng
- Kris Cho
- Priscilla Lau
- And Jamison Properties ℅ Phillip Lee, Esq.
I felt very lucky to be one of them and help with so many of the important efforts AJSOCAL takes on on behalf of the AAPI community. The funds from this year’s virtual fundraiser will allow us to expand our immigration services, housing legal clinics, anti-AAPI discrimination work, and other victims’ support services.
Thank you again to our year-long Flame and Ruby sponsors:
We would also like to thank our Game Night event sponsors:
The participants showed such team spirit, creativity, and determination in each round of games and we are so happy to announce this year’s winners:
- Game Night Winner – APABA – Everything Everywhere APABA at Once
- Punniest Team Name – The Walt Disney Company – the Mandalawrians
- Most Spirited Virtual Background – Audrey Lin’s team – The Sketchy Characters
Congratulations to all the winners! We look forward to seeing you all next year!
